The Suite Restaurant and Bar in the downtown Bellevue Hyatt does not look and feel like your typical environment. Owner Keith Olson and his team wanted to create an unmatched setting featuring phenomenal furniture and accessories custom designed and built to their specifications. Designer Vicki Elkins knew who to recruit—her longtime friend Kim Sparks and her team at Bellevue/Eastside Upholstery.

Keith and his team wanted to go big—remarkable specialized bench and booth seating as well as custom door panels and drapes. Every item was to be handmade built-to-order. Kim worked together with “top-of-the-line” frame maker Mark at Wood Werks.
There were numerous challenges such as maximizing the seating space, customizing each piece for ultimate comfort, enabling pieces to be easily maintained and re-done without interfering with daily operations, and on-site upholstery needs.

“This was an exciting project for us and Keith was great to work with,” said Kim. ”He definitely knew the direction he wanted to go, the materials to get him there and always made himself available to answer any of our questions throughout the process. By clearly defining what they wanted and what we could provide it made the project go very smoothly and meet critical timelines. We provided in-shop custom pieces as well as on site upholstery work ranging from finishing banquette seating to upholstering under the bar. We look forward to Keith’s next restaurant!”

Experts create beautiful custom made furniture for price similar to high-end store model

Interior decorator Barbara Zweig, Zweig Decorating Ideas, helps residential clients create specialty contemporary furniture for their homes. Her pieces are recognized for blending quality, comfort and practical application. She takes pride in the versatility of her furniture to provide more than one style expression for each piece.

Barbara recently designed unique new pieces for her family room and needed the expert advice of her long term friends at Bellevue Eastside Upholstery. ”There were multiple challenges to assembling this project, not the least of which was to anchor my custom acrylic legs to the frames of a sofa and chair,” she said. ”I also wanted to ensure seating comfort and support. Despite these hurdles, I knew Kim and her team could make it happen.”

The team figured out how to retrofit an extra piece of wood underneath the frame to enable an additional screw for leg support. Then it was time to tackle the “sink factor.” The ability of the seat and back cushions to provide some softness with support and remain comfortable was vital to Barbara and her husband.

“Kim and her team helped me select the best foam density to provide the needed comfort and support,” said Barbara. “Their workmanship is nothing short of amazing. This project required surgical-like attention to enable perfect stitching and matching seams. These pieces feature acrylic legs, leather and reverse fabric to provide multiple styles and expressions with the flip of a cushion. The team delivered stunning and comfortable pieces with seams that match up perfectly. This is custom made furniture at its best for a competitive price versus the high-end store model.”

Long Time Collaboration between Bellevue Eastside Upholstery and DH Design Scores another Win

Specialty firms create unique furniture for the Elements in Bellevue

The relationship between Bellevue Eastside Upholstery and DH Design goes back more than 20 years. Recently the firms teamed to provide sophisticated furniture for the Elements Apartment Homes in Bellevue, featuring world class architecture and amenities in an arts filled setting.

The project featured custom scaled furniture designed by Debbie Roskopf, Principal of DH Design, Inc. located in Redmond. “I trust Ray and Kim to do quality work at a fair price,” said Debbie. “Equally important, Kim and I work together to value engineer the final pieces. The ability to collaborate with her to advise on the project from beginning to end is invaluable.”

Debbie’s client wanted contemporary custom-scaled furniture that was also durable for both the activities room and common areas. The pieces consisted of a three-piece sectional couch that features metal legs and a custom metal arm atop a laminated box, a large bench and eight barrel chairs.

Bellevue Eastside Upholstery helped finalize the design and custom built the pieces. “As the industry contracts, we are uniquely able to provide years of experience, an in-house designer and install only the highest grade materials,” said Ray Sparks, Co-Owner. “It’s a pleasure to have such a long successful history working together with Debbie.”

Debbie designs her own furniture and says it’s easier to work with Kim and the team because they can not only fabricate but help to avoid problems along the way. “This project could have been more complicated without their help,” said Debbie. “I have even asked them to collaborate on an out-of-state project this summer.”
